Nuri, new reality finance Vision
TL;DR: Nuri wants to make digital ownership as easy as Face ID and as secure as a physical vault, for everyone worldwide. Passkeys with the PRF extension generate the keys, and you hold them. Nuri is a Money Browser, not a bank. Nuri makes money from small service fees on swaps, not from storing your money.
A short FAQ around the Vision and Goal of Nuri.com from Emin Mahrt
Mission and who it is for

What is Nuri's core mission?
We make digital ownership as easy as Face ID and as secure as a physical vault. Our goal is to enable everyone worldwide to own and manage digital assets like Bitcoin or digital Euros, without technical barriers, without a bank account, and without handing over control to a third party.
What does self-custody mean in simple terms?
Self-custody is like having digital cash in your own pocket. Unlike a traditional bank account, where the bank manages your money, with Nuri you hold the exclusive cryptographic keys. No one, not even Nuri, can freeze your account or access your funds.
Who is Nuri built for?
For everyone. It is particularly valuable for those without access to traditional banking systems, like refugees or people in countries with weak financial infrastructure, and also for security-conscious users who want to regain full control over their digital assets.
Technology and security

What is Nuri's core technical innovation?
We use Passkeys (WebAuthn) not just for logging in, but for generating cryptographic keys. By using the Pseudo-Random-Function (PRF) of the Passkey, we derive secure secrets from your biometric data, so Face ID or your fingerprint. This allows you to sign blockchain transactions directly from your device's secure hardware.
How is the system protected against hacks?
We use a multi-key architecture. Your access is not based on a single password but on multiple distributed keys, for example one on your smartphone and another on a recovery structure. An attacker would need to compromise multiple independent systems at the same time to get access. And since we do not keep a central user database, there is no honeypot for large-scale data leaks.
What happens if I lose my smartphone?
This is a central focus of our R&D. We are developing mechanisms for key rotation and recovery. You can lock lost devices and restore access via backup keys or other verification paths without ever giving up the principle of self-custody.
Paying, and why Nuri is not a bank

Can I use Nuri to pay at a local grocery store?
Yes. Your money stays in your self-custodied wallet, and we provide bridges to the traditional financial world through partners. Visa partners enable card payments and Apple Pay. IBAN partners allow SEPA transfers directly from your wallet, for example to pay rent. And the unique advantage is that if a partner fails, only that specific feature disappears. Your money stays safe and accessible in your wallet.
Is Nuri a bank?
No. Nuri is a "Money Browser". We provide the technology that allows you to interact directly with decentralized networks (blockchains). We do not hold your deposits, and we have no control over your assets.
Research, open source and AI

Why is this project an R&D initiative?
Combining absolute user-friendliness, so no seed phrases to memorize, with true decentralized self-custody is a big technical challenge. Our research focuses on three things. Decentralized recovery, so restoring access without a central authority. Inheritance, so heirs can access assets after a defined period of inactivity. And post-quantum readiness, so protecting digital signatures against future threats from quantum computers.
Why is Nuri open source?
Trust must be verifiable. By making our source code public, experts worldwide can audit our cryptography. And it guarantees that you can still access your funds even if Nuri as a company were to stop existing.
How does AI fit into Nuri's future?
We are paving the way for the Agent Economy. In the future, AI assistants could prepare payments or check invoices for you. Through our secure signature infrastructure you always keep the final control. The AI suggests a transaction, but you authorize it with a simple Face ID.
How Nuri makes money

How does Nuri make money if there are no account fees?
We make money through convenience services. When you swap currencies within the app, for example Bitcoin to Euro, a small service fee is applied. You pay for the easy integration and ease of use, not for the storage of your money.
